CECAFA WCL QUALIFIERS: Goals galore as Vihiga queens shine over YEI stars

Vihiga queens of Kenya smashed YEI Jointed stars of South Sudan by eleven unanswered goals in the ongoing caf women champions league qualifiers for cecafa region.

This was the second group match for both sides and having been stunned by CBE of the Ethiopia by 4-2 in the opener, the fkfwpl champions needed a turn around of results in this one to better their chances of proceeding into the knock out round.

YEI stars had similar fate in the opener losing to New generation stars of Zanzibar by two unanswered goals.
It was the queens though who made their intentions all clear early on cruising to a 4-0 lead in the first 15mins of the match.

Maurine Atieno broke the deadlock in the 5th minute tapping into an empty net from a Enez Mudeizi’s lowly driven cross.

A minute later violet Wanyonyi got her self into the score sheet doubling queens’s advantage beating Nathaniel Kawa Annet John from the edge of the box with a well hit effort.

There would be two quick goals in the 15th and 16th minutes of the match as Tereza Engesha scored beautifully from a dangerous freekick just outside the area, before Violet Wanyonyi grabbed her brace with a lofted effort to the back of Annet’s net,putting vihiga up 4-0.

There would be two more goals before the halftime break, Maurine Achieng tapping in another cross to grab her brace, this time from the opposite flank courtesy of the busy pacy Violet wanyonyi.

In the 38th minute, there was a moment of sheer brilliance as Jentrix Shikangwa showed ice cold composure after controlling violet’s cross from the right,turning a defender inside out before finessing in the top corner to make it 6-0 for vihiga.

Come the second half and the queens were even hungrier for more goals, and just four minutes from the restart, Tereza Engesha literally went down to head in her side’s 7th with the coolest of headers from a Mudeizi’s pinpoint cross from the left.

7-0 up by the hour mark but the quest for more couldn’t have been more evident, with vihiga bossing and dictating the pace of the match as they pleased. Stringing pass after pass with sweet flowing moves, effortlessly going past a disjointed YEI stars and in the 64th minute Violet Wanyonyi ensured of her hattrick, scoring the 8th for Vihiga.

Three minutes later Maurine Achieng would herself complete her hattrick, latching onto a rebound after Anne Stephen had spilled violet’s bottom corner bound effort.

Jentrix, would eventually get her second goal in the 70th minute with a moment of magic, sending an audacious effort from thirty yards out into the top corner for her side’s 10th goal.

Wanyonyi would deservedly get her fourth of the evening in the 90th minute, after racing onto a Janet Bundi’s cut back from the left burying it home with a strong left foot hit.Her woman of the match performance compounding YEI stars woos and ultimately ensuring an 11-0 win for the Kenyan champions.

Earlier in the same venue, Loza Geinoire and Medina Busser starred as CBE of Ethiopia ran riot against New Generations of Zanzibar, scoring 5goals and a hattrick respectively.

Hasabe Gila and Aregash Tadesse were the other two scorers for the bankers ensuring a 10-1 win for the Ethiopian champions. Husna Mpanja Scored the consolation for Zanzibar side.

CBE top the group with six points, vihiga queens sit second with three points. A stronger goal difference putting her above New generation FC who also have three points. YEI stars are deeply rooted bottom of the group without any points from the two rounds played.
