Gor Mahia Football Club has appealed to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga to reconsider his decision to hold a public rally at Jacaranda Grounds on Sunday.
A statement issued by the Club’s Secretary General Samuel Ochola on Thursday urged the former premier to postpone the meeting since it coincides with their scheduled match against rivals AFC Leopards.
“We the Kogalo fraternity are aware that you have planned a consultative meeting with Wananchi Cum Demo on Sunday 29th January 2023,” reads a section of the statement.
“As our dear Patron, we wish to remind you of our Mashemeji Derby Clash with AFC Leopards at 3 p.m. – Nyayo Stadium; the same day that you will be holding a consultative meeting cum demo.”
The club consequently invited Odinga to grace the football match, further asking him to either suspend or postpone the event in a bid to allow most of their supporters to show up.
“We hereby formally invite you to grace the occasion. We also appeal to you to consider either rescheduling the demo or having it in good time to enable the supporters of both Clubs to make their way to the stadium in time for the derby,” added the statement.
The Azimio chief on Wednesday asked his supporters to convene at Jacaranda Grounds on Sunday for a public rally where he would give them further directions.
“Jumapili ni jumapili, nataka kuona uwanja imejaa, na kisha nitawatangazia mpango mwingine,” Mr. Odinga said.
