Kenya’s National Women’s Rugby Team Queen Passes On

Kenya’s national women’s rugby team Kenya Lionesses lock Bernadette Olesia of Northern Suburbs Ladies Rugby has paased on.

A statement from her club Tuesday disclosed that Olesia passed on Tuesday at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital where she was receiving treatment.

Bernadette worked at Shamas Rugby Foundation and played for Northern Suburbs Ladies team.

Known as Berna by her folks, she made her debut for the national team in 2018 and she last appeared for the Kenya Lionesses in May this year during the Women’s Rugby Africa Cup Championship in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

In the championship, Kenya finished second behind South Africa after beating Madagascar and Cameroon 29-20 and 52-3 before being whipped 48-0 by the South Africans.

Kenya Lionesses head coach Dennis Mwanja described Olesia as a hard working, disciplined and dedicated player.

“We have lost a gem in the team. ” She trained with us two weeks ago but excused her because she was unwell,” said Mwanja.
