Kitengela, Athi River, EPZ to Lack Electricity on Sunday

Kitengela and the adjacent areas will operate without electricity in an eight-hour shutdown to reconnect customers to the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) substation, on Sunday, September 25th, 2022.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 23, 2022 by the Kenya Power Company (KPC) that the reconnection will follow after the completion of repair works to the 66/11KV EPZ substation which was aimed at boosting power supply to EPZ industries, Athi River, Kitengela and its environs.

“The commissioning exercise will involve a shutdown of electricity supply to Kitengela and its environs for eight hours from 9am to 5pm,” Kenya Power MD Geoffrey Muli said.

He said the repair work involved the replacement of a faulty switchgear which had diminished the substation’s capacity to serve customers in the area.

Muli said the refurbished substation is a major milestone in the company’s effort to stabilise power supply to Kitengela and its environs.

“We apologise to our customers to the inconvenience they will experience as a result of the shutdown which is necessary to facilitate the commissioning exercise,” Muli said.
