Double Olympic and world 1,500metres champion Faith Chepng’etich was the star attraction as she obliterated a strong field to win the senior women’s 10 kilometres race at this year’s Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Gold Tour at Lobo Village, Eldoret on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 sponsored by Lotto.
Chepng’etich, the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo 1,500m champion took charge three kilometres into the race, charging past Commonwealth 3,000m steeplechase champion Jackline Chepkoech to claim victory in 33 minutes and 50 seconds.
Kipyegon crossed the finish line in 33:50 ahead of Commonwealth Games 3000m SC Champion Jackline Chepkoech who timed 34:52. Zenah Jemutai finished third in 35:08. Caroline Nyaga crossed the line 10th in 35:54. World Under-20 1500m silver medallist Purity Chepkirui fizzled out to finish 21st in 37:19.
