Police Sip Tusker as Nzoia Takes Over Premier League Lead

Reigning Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) champions Tusker  surrendered  their lead at the top as Nzoia Sugar moved to the summit of the league on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Vihiga Bullets became the first team in the league this season not honour their premier league match.

Elvis Rupia grabbed a first half hatrick for Kenya Police to trounce champions Tusker 3-0 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi.

Rupia signed from AFC Leopards scored in the 2nd, 7th and 17th minutes to become the seventh player to net a hat-trick in the campaign.

Tusker slip to second position after Nzoia Sugar won their weekend fixture to trail the sugar millers by three points.

Nzoia Sugar fought from a goal down to pip military side Ulinzi Stars 2-1 at Lang’ata Baracks Sports Complex to take over the driving seat of the league.

After a barren first half, Boniface Muchiri netted the opener in the 67th minute before the sugar millers scored two quick goals within a span of three minute in the 84th and 87th minutes to bag maximum points.

Nzoia Sugar were awarded a penalty with six minutes to go which Boniface Munyendo stepped and converted for the equalizer before Emmanuel Esekon earned the visitors the hard fought victory.

Nzoia tops the league with 27 points three ahead of second placed Tusker and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) both tied at 24 points but separated on goal difference.

Sofapaka W/O  Vihiga Bullets

The 2009 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka earned easy points after their opponents Vihiga Bullets failed to honour the league match at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Annex in Nairobi.

The Vihiga based outfit failed to travel from the Western Kenya region to tackle “BatotoBa Mungu” for the centre referee to call of the match after waiting for the Bullets for 30 minutes.

Mathare United 1 Homeboyz 5

The FKF PL runners up Kakamega Homeboyz trounced bottom placed Mathare United 5-1 at Utalii grounds.

Mike Isabwa signed from Vihiga Bullets and Moses Shumah bagged a brace each and Brian Eshihanda added for the rout while David Ohiambo scored an own goal for Mathare’s consolation.

Kariobangi Sharks 1 Bidco 1

Kariobangi Sharks converted a late penalty to hold the FKF Cup bronze medalists Bidco United 1-1 at the Moi International Sports Centre Annex.

Kevin Musamali made no mistake from the spot to earn Sharks a draw after canceling Alex Juma’s early goal for the Thika based Bidco.

The draw ensured Kariobangi Sharks extended their unbeaten streak to four matches (W2, D2).

Wazito 1 KCB 1

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) conceded an injury time goal to a 1-1 draw against Wazito at Muhoroni Stadium.

Kennedy “Daddy” Owino returning from a two year injury expressed his hunger for goals by breaking the deadlock in the 9th minute a lead that the bankers let go in the seventh minute of added time for a share of the spoils.
