Prisoners Escape from Police Station Armed with AK 47 Rifle

Two prisoners detained at Sikhendu police station have escaped from the police cells in with a loaded AK 47 rifle Trans Nzoia County.

Police have launched a manhunt for the two Daniel Wanjala and Samuel Wafula arrested over livestock theft.

They were locked up for stealing two cows and were due to appear in court on Thursday but they managed to escape from the cells on Wednesday night.

Police said they escaped by breaking the wooden ceiling and then cutting through the iron sheet.

A police report indicates that the two jumped into the report office, where they also broke the steel box armoury and stole one AK47 loaded with 14 rounds of 7.6mm.

“They then dashed out unnoticed through the station main door which was not closed,” the police report reads in part.

The two officers who were on duty at the time of the escape have been arrested to assist in the investigations.
