Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio One Kenya Coalition, has issued a stern warning to the government regarding its failure to address the persistent rise in the cost of living.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka Command Centre today, Odinga cautioned that if the government continued to ignore the pleas of Kenyan citizens, it could face repercussions similar to those experienced by oppressive governments in other parts of the world.
“There are strong indications that things will either worsen or remain the same. However, we refuse to ask you to tighten your belts any further; you have already done enough. The responsibility squarely lies with the current regime. They must take action, or they will eventually suffer the fate that has befallen other insensitive and incompetent governments across the continent,” Odinga stated.
Odinga’s remarks come in response to the recent increase in fuel prices, which he attributed to the current government’s decision to engage in government-to-government oil supply agreements with oil producers.
“The root cause of the fuel price issues we are currently facing is the government’s interference with oil trading systems (OTS). I speak to you as someone who served as Minister of Energy in my earlier years. This interference is the source of the challenges we are experiencing. They decided on government-to-government agreements and payment in Kenyan shillings,” explained the former Prime Minister.
He further questioned the logic of paying in Kenyan shillings, stating, “Ask yourself, what would the Middle East Arabs do with Kenyan shillings? It is the ill-conceived policies of this government that have brought us to this point. Unfortunately, it is innocent Kenyan citizens who are suffering, while those responsible are jet-setting around the world, exploring coffee and tigers in Colombia,” Odinga added.
Raila Odinga’s warning underscores the urgency of addressing the rising cost of living in Kenya, a matter of great concern to the nation’s citizens.
