Rigathi Gachagua’s Sister In Law Land’s Government Appointment

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s sister-in-law Dr. Margaret Karungaru Gachagua has been nominated to the National Gender and Equality Commission.

Dr. Kangaru, is the widow of the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.

President William Ruto made the announcement on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 via a message to Parliament.

“His Excellency the President, in exercise of the powers conferred on him, has nominated Dr. Margaret Karungaru for appointment as a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission,” National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula said as he read Ruto’s message to the House.

Her nomination is subject to Parliamentary approval by the Departmental Committee on Labour within 21 days.

“In this regard, the committee should undertake approval hearings and submit its report within 21 days as provided for in the National Gender and Equality Commission Act,” said Wetangula.

“The law however allows for an extension of this period should need arise. In view of the foregoing, the committee is expected to immediately commence the approval process, and notify the nominee and the general public of the time and place for holding the approval hearings.”

Once the hearings are finalised, the committee is expected to table a report on the same before the House on or before April 5, 2023, for further action.
