Sam Timbe the coach that led Sofapaka to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup triumph is dead.
Timbe who also had a coaching stint with the 2022/23 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) champions Tusker was confirmed dead by Ugandan Premier League side URA FC on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
The Ugandan club was hit by news of Timbe’s death as they were in camp preparing for the FUFA Super 8 Cup final against KCCA FC scheduled for Sunday at Philip Omondi Stadium in Kampala.
“We are saddened to inform you of the unfortunate passing of our esteemed head coach, Sam Timbe, this afternoon while en route to Nakasero Hospital for ICU, as referred by St. Catherine Hospital.
“Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Currently, our team is in camp at the Standard Hotel, Kampala, preparing for the upcoming FUFA Super 8 Cup semi-final match against KCCA FC, scheduled for tomorrow [Sunday] at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
“Further updates will be provided in due course,” URA announced.
While in charge of Sofapaka christened Batoto ba Mungu, Timbe won the Football Kenya Federation Cup in 2014 before he returned to his home country and took charge of Police FC.
He is a Premier League winner in Uganda with SC Villa and has also taken charge of Atraco of Rwanda and Tanzania’s Yanga SC.
