South Sudan Jet in ahead of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

The South Sudan National Women’s Team, Bright Starlets is in the Nairobi as they set up preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) first round qualifiers against Kenya.

The first leg of the qualifiers is scheduled for October 20, 2021 and the second leg will be played four days later. Both matches will be played in Nairobi.

The Sudanese arrived  in Nairobi on Thursday, 7 2021 from South Africa where they have been taking part in this year’s COSAFA Championship where they were eliminated in the group stage.

The Harambee Starlets head coach Charles Okere is expected to name the squad that will take part in the qualifiers before the end of the week.

Kenya is seeking to make a second return in the continental competition following the 2016 events that was held in Cameroon where they failed to go past group stage after losing all their preliminary matches.

The winner from the first round will meet either Ethiopia or Uganda in the second and final round of the qualifiers where the winner will earn a ticket to the AWCON finals that is scheduled for Morocco.

The 2022 AWCON finals will act as the qualifiers of the Women’s World Cup and also as the World Cup where the semi-finalists will earn an automatic qualification to the global show-piece.
