Popular Kenyan deejay Joe Mfalme, real name Joseph Mwenda, will be remanded for 14 days in the suspected assault and death of a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Felix Kelian.
The DJ alongside six other suspects Allan Ochieng, Eric Kariuki Gathua, Simon Wambugu Wanjiru, Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Cheruiyot Rotich and Agnes Kerubo Mogoiare are accused of assaulting Kelian on March 16. The officer later succumbed to the injuries on March 21.
The court allowed the application to have the suspects detained so that the police to conclude investigations into the matter. The court directed the matter to be mentioned on April 8, 2024.
Magistrate Margaret Murage presiding the case at the Kibera Law courts in Nairobi, ordered that the DJ be detained at Muthangari together with Eric Gathua and Simon Wanjiru.
Allan Ochieng will be detained at the Kabete police while the three officers Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Rotich and Agnes Mogoi at Riruta station.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) had requested the court to grant them 21 days to detain the seven suspects.
The prosecution told the court that the accused persons are a flight risk and hence should be detained until investigations into the matter are completed.
The court was told they could easily interfere with investigations.
